The BHI was founded in London (Clerkenwell) in 1858. A group of watchmakers joining together to raise the standards of British horology. The British Horological Institute has permanent premises at Upton hall. Horological training and education forms a major part of the Institutes activities. The British Horological Institute is the awarding body for Technical Horology examinations in the UK and abroad. The BHI museum has existed since the formation of the Institute. It is open to the public on weekends during British Summer Time. The British Horological Institute's library contains nearly 5000 volumes in many languages. |
